Aerospace and defense company Northrop Grumman is on the hunt for new employees now that the first phase of its $500 million expansion in Melbourne is complete.
The Falls Church, Va.-based company (NYSE: NOC) has at least 100 open positions posted on its career website for the Melbourne location. Many of those positions include high-wage jobs such as engineers, technicians and managers.
The Orlando BusinesJournal reported last year that Northrop Grumman broke ground on the first phase of the facility— a 220,000-square-foot building with office space and research-and-development space. While the first phase of the building was expected to bring 300 jobs to the region by the end of 2015, Northrop Grumman spokeswoman Jacqueline Farrell said the [Melbourne] "campus employment grew by 400 in 2014, and we are continuing to fill requisitions."
The groundbreaking for the next phase of the project — 500,000 square feet of space that would add 1,500 employees by 2019 — has yet to be determined.
Northrop Grumman is one of many Central Florida tech firms looking for new employees. Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Symantec and more also are hiring dozens of workers.
